A serious GEO engagement is engineering plus content plus reputation, applied in layers:

  1. Baseline measurement. Run real customer-style prompts across the major AI engines and record whether — and how — your business appears, and who appears instead of you. You can't improve what you haven't measured.
  2. Structured data and entity fixes. Schema markup on every page; consistent business information across your site, profiles, and directories.
  3. Machine-readable summaries. Emerging standards like llms.txt give AI crawlers a clean, plain-text summary of your business instead of forcing them to parse your whole site.
  4. Content architecture. Pages and posts built around the questions your customers ask AI, written so the answer is extractable — like the opening sentence of this article.
  5. Reputation signals. Growing the review footprint AI engines actually read — Google Business Profile, industry platforms, and the roundups that answer "best X" queries.
  6. Ongoing monitoring. AI answers change as models and retrieval sources update. Visibility is a position you hold, not a box you check.
